The recent printing from this engraved block depicting Hotere was done by Dr John Holmes, a Dunedin-based hand-craft printer. The result is very good considering that the original (on display) is somewhat worn and pitted. The plate was made in 1973 using a photograph of Hotere supplied by the Waikato Times. It eventually appeared on the cover of the Waikato Art Gallery Bulletin No.4 of 1973, designed by Garth Hall. A copy of that issue is also on display.
